The new trend of renting 2.0

During the last years the activity of rental apartment has gained ground in the Spanish territory due to the fact that Spain has been consolidating as one of the main tourist destinations in the world, being the third most visited country in 2017 in agreement with The World Tourist Organization (UNWTO) positioning itself behind the United States and France.
Furthermore, Spain has reached the top position in the Travel & Competitiveness index 2017.

The rental of tourist facilities is an economic activity based on renting tourist apartments with a duration of less than one month. This new fashion is very controversial because up to 10 years ago the use of apartments destinated to tourism was not contemplated. Normally these apartments were rented with contracts lasting one year, extendable for another three years. Due to the breakthrough of new technologies the rent of touristic apartments is constantly growing and it is becoming more than an alternative to the traditional rent. The 65% of the total number of touristic accommodation offered in Spain is managed by P2P platforms.

The renting of houses through P2P platforms begins to be a shop that is more professional and possibly profitable than traditional rents. As shown in the following table, the amount of tourist apartments in Spain and the number of places begins to be relevant.
